Types of dust sheet
Cotton and cotton-blend sheets are absorbent, hard-wearing and reusable. They stay put on the floor, soak up spills and suit most rooms. Plastic and polythene sheets are lightweight and waterproof, which makes them handy for covering furniture and shelving. Backed or non-slip sheets give extra grip on hard floors and stairs, where a slipping sheet can be a hazard.
What to protect
Cover floors first, especially along skirting boards where drips collect. Move furniture to the middle of the room and cover it fully. Don’t forget light fittings, radiators and door furniture. Use masking tape to secure sheets and protect edges where needed.
Choosing the right size
Measure the area before you buy. Larger sheets save time on open floors, while smaller ones are more manageable on stairs, landings and tight spaces.
